Exhibiting at The Park School of Buffalo with the 44th Annual Roycroft Winter Festival on December 7 & 8, 2024 as the newest cohort of Roycroft Emerging Artists: Anna Dyshlova.
In furtherance of RALA’s mission to educate and foster, Roycrofters at Large is proud to highlight the work of Park School class of 2026 Anna Dyshlova as our first Roycroft Emerging Youth Artist. Anna will exhibit a selection of her portfolio as part of the 2024 Winter Festival as a first Emerging Youth Artist.
Dyshlova, originally from Ukraine, is a 17 year old painter currently residing in the United States and attending Park School of Buffalo. She began to seriously engage with an art practice at 13 and while she enjoys working in different styles, she primarily works in abstract realism. She has been teaching privately for fellow students and adults since the age of 14, believing that craft and art is an essential for everyone as a tool for therapy, mental health and has potential to create income. Dyshlova has also worked with glass and pottery, digital art and large scale on walls. While here in the United States with her family, she has developed her process and her business practice to gain juried entry into various regional festivals, including Music is Art, the Lewiston Art Festival, Glen Park Festival and Tiferet JFS.
She draws inspiration from nature and animal life, combining animals and people in her compositions. She also finds value in refining her work through study of the classics, as she says, “Sometimes I would also paint reproductions of famous paintings like Starry night, Maria Antuanette, Monet Water Lilies . I like to go back to art roots once in a while, I think it’s important to remember art through decades as it evolves and changes.”
Not only is Dyshlova a talented artist, but an exceptional student. Says Lisa Conrad, Head of School at Park, “Anna is truly an ideal student in every way, and she has proven that she has the desire to succeed in all that she does. Anna is driven by a strong desire to create in a visual form, and is so incredibly thoughtful in her work. As an English language learner, Anna faces monstrous challenges that require an incredible amount of effort, and yet she never complains for a minute about how challenging it is. She aspires to a quality of writing which surpasses the efforts of many of her native-learner peers. She has a singular voice, difficult enough for any high-school student, and understands how language and mechanics affect tone and meaning.”
Roycrofters at Large is proud and touched to have the opportunity to help Dyshlova hone her practice and will work with her to help develop a CV, a portfolio, proper pricing and assistance with sales.
A collection of assembled work by Park Students of Note by Park School of Buffalo art faculty as a collaboration with the Roycrofters at Large Emerging Artists Program will also be on display during the festival. A cohort of these students will be recommended by the Emerging Artists Chair to join the 2025 Roycroft Summer Festival in East Aurora.
This year’s Roycroft Winter Festival features the work of Roycroft Masters and Artisans, two Roycroft Emerging Artist cohorts and a schedule of live and interactive art demonstrations by Roycroft Artisans and Masters throughout the weekend.
